Slow Folder Loading in Explorer with Symantec AntiVirus?

If your computer is well protected by Symantec AntiVirus, previously known as Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition, and it however takes seconds, not instantly, to open a folder in Windows Explorer, you are suggested to double check the settings of Symantec AntiVirus. And here is a list for you to follow step by step.

  1. Open Symantec AntiVirus. You can do it after right-click the shield-like tray icon on bottom right of Taskbar.
  2. Open Configure folder in the left panel and click File System Auto-Protect.
  3. Click Advanced on the right panel, make sure Make Default File Cache Size is selected and click Ok. You can also select Custom File Cache Entries instead. Just don’t disable it, otherwise Symantec AntiVirus will take time in identifying the file types every time you open a folder. This is a very effective setting affecting the Explorer.
  4. This is also helpful: Select Selected among the radio options of File Types, tick the check box of SmartScan and click Ok.

Then your Explorer should have much faster response to your left-click on a folder and it remains safe with Symantec AntiVirus.
